A team of volunteers build a composter and combination food preparation/pizza oven area for a local community garden.
With over a year
of planning behind the project, the composter and cooking area came to fruition in a matter of 2
months after the final approval. Over 150 man-hours were put in by a team of over 20 boy
scouts, adult leaders, and community volunteers led by me.
The local community garden
received a brand new composter designed and hand-built to their specifications to best serve
them. Additionally, our team built a food preparation area complete with two counter-tops, a
rocket stove, and the centerpiece 18" earthen cob pizza oven. The composter is continuously in
use and the food prep. area gets used often to bake bread, make pizzas, and enjoy food with
vegetables straight from the garden.
